Well, he seems to be according at least to Republican Congressman Tom Davis. It is quite ironic considering that the President has problem saying the word " nuclear " properly.
In the aftermath of losing three special elections, back to back, in once solidly Republicans Districts. The 1st one in Illinois ( seat of former House Speaker Hastert), the 2nd one in Mississippi and the 3rd one in Louisiana. The Democrats winning in both Southern states are " Reagan Democrats ", social conservative favoring pro-life and protection of gun's ownership rights.
This is how Rep. Tom Davis voices his concerns in a memorandum he just sent to the GOP's leadership:
" They( the three special elections) are canaries in the coal mine, warning of far greater losses in the fall, if steps are not taken to remedy the current climate. These races were not in New-Jersey or New-England, where Republicans erosion has taken place over the last decade. They were in the heart of the Bible Belt, the social conservative core of our coalition. "
Some national polls are tracking the GOP 20% behind the Democrats for the November's elections. The GOP could loose the South and the Bible Belt in 2008, ending Karl Rove's dream of a permanent majority.

McCain could even be more radioactive than Bush, if elected he probably would put attacking Iran on top of his agenda.
