Can the Dems get a foothold on the religious vote?

Both candidates sought a religious advantage with their respective VP choices. McCain with the Evangelists by picking Palin and Obama with the Catholics by picking Biden.This article from The New-Yorker explores how it might pay off.

I think the most effective way for Obama and McCain to deal with Palin is to leave her alone and try to get...let say Hillary Clinton to focus her attacks on her.
