In banking, Rahm Emmanuel made money and contacts.

In 1998, after he left the Clinton administration, Obama's Chief of Staff had a 21/2 years career in investment banking. He made 18 million in this venture advising people on investments, using his extensive Rolodex. While it could be an advantage for him in understanding the financial world, it could also prevent him from thinking outside the box.
